Hi! I’m Rory (he/him), and I’m running to be your LUSU President 2025!

We’re currently going through a time of big change with the curriculum transformation programme and a new Vice Chancellor, affording us the opportunities to reframe student-university relations to put student needs first.

If elected I will:

Control rent prices

  • Campus accommodation prices have consistently risen at a higher rate than the maintenance loan, leaving you with no money to eat, let alone anything else. The University can negotiate these prices with the campus accommodation provider, and I will ensure that they do to put money back into your pockets and stop this spiral.

Protect student jobs through University financial cuts

  • We have seen with the closure of college bars that the University is prepared to sacrifice student income in pursuit of cutting costs. I will ensure student income does not continue to be a casualty of University cost cutting.

Make town a safer place for students

  • Crime rates in Lancaster are increasing, including burglary, and violence and sexual offences, the University can’t shy away from this. I will make sure they apply pressure on local authorities to ensure town safety is as much of a priority as campus safety.

And more...!

250 words is nothing, so please go to my Instagram @rory_oceallaigh to find out more about me and my pledges (including some bonus ones)!

To see these pledges realised, please make sure to vote Rory as your number 1 choice for LUSU President. Thank you :)
